After reading about the vintage love/heartbreak story of Tommy and Buzz we got feeling all reflective.

There’s something alluring and touching about the history of queer love and lust; because it was so forbidden, the element of risk ignites our sexual adrenaline, while seamlessly breaking our heart.

The closest gay men had to representation or pornography in the 40s were “fitness” magazines which were often homoerotic in tone and showed muscular men in small thongs or “pouches”. (The photo of Tommy and Buzz was dated 1949, so gives an idea of why they would have had to hide their affections).

Ultimately, vintage gay porn didn’t arrive until the 60s, after the pioneering work of Tom of Finland, and during the liberation of free love. Cult and Drum were two of the most notably launched queer magazines, which depicted men both fully nude and engaging in sex acts.

Needless to say, the editorial porn of the 60s is a far wank away from the amateur cyber exhibitionism that flourishes today.
