We love a bit of foreign cinema. Especially if its anything like Synonymes (Synonyms).

The French-Israeli drama centres around a young Israeli man who absconds to Paris to flee his nationality, aided by his trusty Franco-Israeli dictionary. Well, if that doesn’t sound like I’d rather stay home and have a wank then I don’t know what does. But, not to be misled: you can go see it at the cinema – and still have a wank.

Here are some of the raunchier scenes in the film: certainly not where we saw this story going.

This also isn’t some naff indie film, (translation: dick isn’t the only reason to see it); snatching the Golden Bear at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, and the FIPRESCI at Cannes, (selected by a board of noted film critics).

We get the sense that in Synonymes relatively basic narrative structure, Yoav (Mercier) finds himself in a number of intriguing, dark and random situations.
