Perez Hilton – known as one for his controversial comments and antics (especially in the Celebrity Big Brother house) – recently posted a photo of himself and his son to Instagram, where the two appeared to be bathing together. And needless to say, the internet went a bit crazy. The pic was accompanied by the comment:

“family motto is: #fun! We try and incorporate fun into as much of the everyday things we do! #Bathtime.”

Trolls were quick to jump to perverse opinions, branding the photo “child abuse” while others called him “another Michael Jackson”. But the positive comments, did somewhat seem to outweigh the negativity after the story picked up media coverage, with many people out that it’s “perfectly normal” for parents to bathe with their children. While others suggested the pic was “kinda creepy”…

The question is though, would people have been just as quick to jump to nasty comments if Perez Hilton had been straight? Or if Perez was the child’s mother? Of course not. Because many people still have that deluded – and quite frankly, fucked up – notion that gay men are attracted to anyone with a penis. Or even more twisted, that gay people are perverts and pedophiles. WHAT YEAR IS THIS?

I’m certainly not first in line of Hilton’s fan club, but the man is being attacked for no valid reason. He also went on to say that he had swimming trunks on. What a lot of people don’t understand is that the bond between a parent and a child is close – and many people who aren’t parents have no remote grasp of just how close. In many cases, the child is made up of that parent’s DNA, the parent is a part of them. OK, so that isn’t the case for adoptive parents but the unconditional love is the same and until you’re a parent you’ll never truly understand it.

So perhaps the hatred is more to do with immature and ignorant people that don’t get the parental bond, but something suggests that the uproar would have been less violent, if at all, if Perez Hilton wasn’t a gay man…
